WoPoss: A world of possibilities. Modal pathways over an extra-long period of time: the diachrony of modality in the Latin language
The SNSF-funded project «A world of possibilities. Modal pathways over an extra-long period of time: the diachrony of modality in the Latin language» (WoPoss) aims at reconstructing the evolution of modal meanings and constructions from the prehistory of the Latin language up to the 7th century CE. The main milestone of the project is a linguistically annotated, diachronic corpus in which a selection of modal markers has received a fine-grained semantic annotation, according to the WoPoss guidelines for the annotation of modality (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.3560950).
A linguistically annotated diachronic corpus of the Latin language (3rd BCE – 7th CE). The corpus enables the investigation of modal meanings and constructions in the history of the Latin language. The texts have been annotated automatically. The modal passages have been manually annotated by the annotators of the WoPoss team (for a more precise responsibility description, see each file).
